As we embark on the sixth decade of our business in Downtown Memphis, we reflect back and think about how much has changed since we first started our business on famous Beale Street. The Lansky Brothers story spans generations as each decade tells its own story.
Lansky Brothers started as an army surplus store but as soldiers returned from World War II, the store was changed to accommodate customers interested in a one-of- a- kind look. The original Lansky store at 126 Beale became the fashion headquarters to musicians and the clothes savvy, including B.B. King, Isaac Hayes, David Porter, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Rufus Thomas. It did not take long for Lansky's to build a repertoire with Gospel, Blues, Soul, and Rock 'n Roll musicians. However, it was Elvis Presley who helped establish Bernard Lansky's Clothier to the King title and allowed for global recognition.
With the reopening of The Peabody in the '80s came a new legacy- Lansky at The Peabody. For the last 25 years, we've been doing business right in the lobby of the hotel. It is here where you can find something for everyone. Lansky at The Peabody provides fine menswear in a unique environment, Lansky 126 is a trendy denim boutique for both men and women, and Lansky Lucky Duck offers an assortment of eclectic gifts. Throughout the years, downtown Memphis has seen significant change but the one thing that has remained constant is the partnership we've created with The Peabody. It has been exciting to be a part of the growth and re-development of downtown Memphis.
We are proud to have cultivated a legacy that three generations are now part of. We have been so fortunate to meet so many people from all over the world who come by to shop and visit with us.
